Rohnert Park, CA - The School of Business and Economics (SBE) at Sonoma State University (SSU) announced that Dr. Robert Eyler, Professor of Economics and Interim Dean of the School of Extended and International Education, will present the "National and Marin Economic Forecast" at the 12th Annual Forecasting the Future Marin Economic Conference happening Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 7:30 - 10 a.m. at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael. Cost is $45 for members of the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce and $65 for members of the public. The event is sponsored by the Marin Economic Forum, where Dr. Eyler serves as Chief Economist.
"This is an opportunity to help people connect what's happening in their community to what's happening in communities across the country, and in markets around the world. Nationally, we're seeing decent job growth, though forecasts suggest demand is slowing for U.S. goods in China and Europe, which in turn slows hiring. Production and labor markets are typically driven by financial markets, which determine the cost of doing business," Dr. Robert Eyler said. "The recession that began in 2008 still has elements in play in California, particularly in the Central Valley along the I-5 corridor. The growth in urban areas hasn't rippled out as it did in past decades, so we'll be watching what happens globally over the next six months, to anticipate and inform public policy discussions here at home."
Dr. Eyler will also moderate a panel discussion regarding the effect of the drought on regional businesses, including David Gross of Heritage Landscapes, Jodie Clay of Kaiser Permanente, Lynn Giacomini Stray of Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company, and Krishna Kumar of Marin Municipal Water District. Keynote speaker Mac Taylor, Legislative Analyst for the State of California, will address the impact of recent public elections on the economy.
