Wine Business Institute’s Research Journal Rescoped and Renamed to Wine Business Journal

New scope to diversify published research, provide insights for wine professionals beyond the academic community

Rohnert Park, CA - Effective immediately, the Wine Business Institute at Sonoma State University announces a name change of its open access Wine Business Case Research Journal to Wine Business Journal. The renaming follows fundamental changes to expand the scope of the publication to include empirical and conceptual research in addition to industry and regional case studies. The new approach will provide relevant and timely insights for the wine community at large. Vicky Farrow, CEO and co-proprietor of Amista Vineyards, will join as an advisory editor to incorporate feedback from wine industry executives. As a part of the new objective, the Wine Business Journal will release a special issue on “Covid-19 and the Wine Industry” in January 2021. 

“Our goal is to increase the value of peer-reviewed research in the field of wine business by cumulating the findings of empirical studies published to date, focusing on understudied areas of research, and increasing the relevance and accessibility of our research to academics and industry executives,” said Dr. Sergio Canavati, editor in chief for the Wine Business Journal and associate professor of management. “We’ve seen a surge in the number of research submissions this year. And, thanks to the Wine Business Institute, the journal is accessible free of charge for everyone and requires no submission fees from authors.”

It broadens the scope in a way that will attract more diverse publications and appeal to a broader audience. I am particularly excited about the practitioner focus that has been added to the journal’s mission,” said Dr. Jean-Francois Coget, dean of the School of Business and Economics. “Our Wine Business Journal team has been working hard to inject new life in this publication, building on an excellent track record from the past four years. I see lots of potential for this journal in the next few years.”

In addition to Vicky Farrow, the Wine Business Journal has also added the following individuals to its editorial team and review board. Dr. Sergio Canavati was recently appointed as the new editor in chief; and Dr. Matthew J. Bauman from Purdue University Northwest and Dr. Damien Wilson, SSU’s Hamel Family Chair of Wine Business, join Mr. David Rowe as associate editors. Eight new researchers from around the globe were added to the journal’s review board, including:

The Wine Business Journal is the premier publication of the Wine Business Institute. The mission of the WBJ is to advance wine business theory, teaching, and practice through the generation, cumulation, and dissemination of knowledge focused on topics with practical and theoretical implications.
