About

Dr. Kirsten Ely is passionate about accounting. She is currently developing and implementing a step-by-step process for using the act of creating financial projections as a way to facilitate student understanding of the way financial reports reflect operations.  Further by calling upon the student’s own understanding of the way businesses operate, it helps them to see that the accounting and financial reports they use for decision making are a natural extension of business rather than something that only accountants can understand.

From Fall 2013 through Spring 2016, Dr. Ely served as the faculty lead for the SSU Community for Entrepreneurship Learning and Leadership (CELL), where she co-developed entrepreneurial course and programs, including:

  • Dream, Make, Innovate Sophomore Year Experience: The course integrates science and commercial viability to teach students how to develop a product that works and is relevant to the economy.
  • EOP Undeclared Entrepreneurial Thinking Track: a two-semester sequence teaching leadership and career/life planning through proactive and entrepreneurial thinking.
  • Made By Seawolves: a student-run store on the SSU campus for student vendors.
  • Entreprenoma: SSU’s cross-disciplinary co-curricular entrepreneurial thinking incubator.
