About

Nadiya Parekh was educated at the management schools of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and National Institute of Technology, Calicut. Her research interest is in the domain of social entrepreneurship finance and sustainability. Her doctoral work explored the field of social entrepreneurship, questioning the sustainability of the pioneer models of financial inclusion in the sector. Her work was published as a book titled “Sustainability of Indian Microfinance Institutions: A Mixed Methods Approach” Springer, New York, 2014). After her doctoral studies she joined as Assistant Professor at the Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, School of Management and Labour Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India, where she worked on the social financing and quantitative research domains of their globally-acclaimed, innovative Masters Course in Social Entrepreneurship. During this phase her interactions with social entrepreneurs and stakeholders in the social enterprise ecosystem intrigued her to critically analyse the economics of social venture financing and empathize with the logics mismatch that arise when pursuing mixed-goals (social, economic & environmental sustainability) within an enterprise model. Addressing such intricacies posed by an evolving field, she has authored several inter-disciplinary research articles in social entrepreneurship finance exploring its interface with public policy, technology and spirituality. Being a ‘Indo-France Cultural Exchange Research Fellow’ most of these works were cross-cultural in nature and were jointly undertaken with faculty collaborators in France. Later, she shifted base to the United States and worked in the impact investment industry in the research and analytics domain, gaining a closer view of the ‘investor mindset’ in social space.
